Personal Development

Personal development can be a complex concept to grasp since it is not something you acquire from one activity. This concept is a process, it is something we accomplish during our life, it's a continuous lesson. As defined by the Cambridge dictionary:

"The process of improving your skills and increasing the amount of experience that you have in your job"

That is why personal development is a lifetime process, it never stops, because you should constantly aim to do better. This can be achieved by learning new skills or improving current ones. This will not only make you more competitive but at the same time, it will give you great satisfaction to do better on what you are passionate about. Personal development also allows you to work on your qualities and skills, and it brings clarity towards what you want to achieve. In other words, working on yourself, lets you understand what you want to achieve and how can you work towards it. Seeking more knowledge will allow you to have a better picture of what you want in your future, you could this with a vision board.

Our mind never stops growing and we should not ignore that fact. We should take advantage of that and use it in our favour, whether that is to contribute to your own business, your personal goals, or both. Pushing yourself is always good (but also remembering when to give yourself a break, as we talked about in this blog post).

So, why is personal development so essential in your life? I am going to share with you a couple of ways on how you can focus on yourself.

Establish personal goals

You should always start by establishing personal goals. These will act as guidelines to identify what you need more of. This could be getting more knowledge about something you are not that familiar with, or even exploring new areas that will contribute to your goals.

Plan, Plan, and Plan

Once you have established a couple of goals that you want to achieve you should focus on how you are going to get there. You need to develop a game plan, you could start by arranging your goals into a list that can be categorized based on the timeline, how achievable they are, and the current resources or knowledge you have. Create a chart with some areas in which you can improve to get there, and match them with your best qualities. If you are unsure of how to create a visual plan for your goals you can check the blog on how to create a vision board.

Hit the action button

Once you have established a plan that best suits your goals, strengths, and strategies, you should now focus on getting your plan going. This at times can be difficult, because even though we have our goals clearly set out, it might be challenging to have a clear path. Sometimes, working on your weaknesses can be a good starting point. Understanding why your areas of improvement need that extra help can be extremely insightful for the next steps. You can read more about this here.

Keep track of your improvement

As mentioned before, personal development is not something that happens out of nowhere, and it is something continuous. It is important for you to keep track of how you are doing, the strategies you are implementing and the outcomes you are getting out of them. This will allow you to understand what is working for you and what is not. Keeping a record will help you understand the process even more.

Ask for feedback

Whenever you are working on something for yourself, it's not a bad idea to share it with someone you can trust. They can share their constructive criticism and their positive insights from another point of view.

Get a mentor

It's not a bad idea to get a little bit of help whenever you feel a little bit lost.

That's all for today!
