Have you ever found yourself unable to find motivation? Maybe you are out of ideas or a recent project did not go as planned. Whatever it is you are just unable to get back on track. It's okay, we have all been there. In fact, this emotional state is so common that it has its own term, its called "Business Burnout."

"Business burnout is the feeling of exhaustion and lack of interest in daily work, resulting in poor performance. It’s caused by an extended time of feeling heavy stress and constant pressure to live up to a certain standard" Source

If you think this is you then you are suffering from business burnout. Being exhausted and losing interest in your day to day activities is probably one of the worst feelings in the world. The key to overcoming this state is to recognize you can move past it. Overcoming a business burnout doesn't mean that you are over your business or that your idea is not good enough. It just means that you need to prioritize your health and establish a healthier balance between your business and your personal life.

So, how can you get out of that state or even better avoid it altogether?

A good starting point is to focus on what makes you happy (I know it is easier said than done) but you can always start by revisiting the reason why you started your business. Remembering the things that you are passionate about and celebrate your past victories. Here are some things you can try out when you are suffering from a business burnout:

You need to recognize that there is something you need to fix. This is a good starting point because if you don't recognize that there is something you need to change then change will never happen. Acknowledging the issue will leave space for you to address the emotional and physical symptoms. At the same time, it allows you to recognize that you have lost your balance and that you need to change your perspective. Make a list of the things that are affecting you.

Getting out of a business burnout is a process and you guessed it, it takes time and effort. The key is to create an action plan as to how you are going to move past it. Make a list of the things that are important to you like: quality time with friends and family, exercising, getting enough sleep, your hobbies, just things that keep you going, and bring back that motivation you have lost. The purpose of this is to remember the things that most matter to you and balance them out.

Routine can always make us feel trapped and tired and along the process, we lose our inspiration and we often make excuses when we need to be creative. If we lose our creativity then starting new projects and taking advantage of exciting opportunities becomes dreadful. Set aside some free time, where you can focus on things that you love about your business, or things that you have always wanted to add to it. These things will inspire you and motivate you into working hard towards your goals.

Now that you have had time to review the things that are important to you and have spent some time getting inspiration, you can shift back to your business projects. This doesn't mean you have to go back to feeling trapped and forgetting about everyone. On the contrary, you could focus on introducing new creative techniques for your business. Here are some ideas:

  • Work on your current Instagram profile! Make sure to add any new ideas you have had or get rid of things you are not passionate about anymore. Here is a quick guide on some tips you can follow

  • Try implementing something you might have learned during your free time: a new Instagram theme, trying out some new photography skills, or new ways to approach your audience.

Last but not least don't forget to give yourself a time out whenever you need it. You are the one running your business you need to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of your customers, projects, and ideas.
