How To Create A Vision Board

Updated: Sep 15

Planning your future might seem stressful, and at times too distant to visualize. That is where a vision board comes in handy. This is an incredible tool that will keep you motivated, organized, and prepared to achieve your goals.

You might be asking, what is a vision board?

"A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate, and maintain focus on what truly matters to you. A vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life" Source

Clarity is one of the most powerful things you need to maintain in your life when trying to achieve your goals. Having clarity lets you do three important things:

  1. It lets you identify your vision

  2. It reinforces your daily affirmations

  3. It keeps you organized and focused

However, something that is important to keep in mind is that a vision board is not just an aesthetic collage. It's so much more than that. A vision board should include everything you want to achieve for a specific period of time, but it should be a call to action, not a dream board. This is something that is so important to keep in mind, a vision board should not be laying around your room, it should be in a visible place as a constant reminder for you to achieve your goals.

Step 1 - Create a motivational list

Start by writing down things that inspire and motivate you. Write down things you want to achieve in your career, personal growth, and relationships. Something that is good to do is to write down a list of things that would be part of your "ideal life." Give your self time to reflect and think things through.

Step 2 - Get some ideas!

Now, it's time to get inspired! Grab some magazines and dive into them and try to find pictures that align with your vision. You can also go beyond just pictures like including quotes that stand out to you and even things such an envelope for you to open in a future time. The last one is an awesome idea that you can revisit in the future, you can include things such as:

- current obstacles you wish to overcome

- goals/wishes

- future advice

You can also get some inspiration online, here are some great websites for it:

Step 3 - Come up with a rough draft

Review your options and lay down a general sketch of your board. This should be a fun process! You're shaping your vision board, something that will keep you motivated at all times. You can always choose a theme for your board, that way you can keep it organized and symmetric.

Step 4 - Put everything together!

Grab your empty canvas or a piece of cardboard and map out the pictures that you have chosen. Remember to make it as visible as possible and the design is all up to you!

Step 5 - Hang your vision board.

You have to make sure that you hang it up in a visible place, that its bright and big enough for you to see everyday. Remember your vision board should be a constant reminder of things you want to achieve, this should not be something that is easily overlooked.

Vision boards will not build our future on their own, but they are an incredible motivational tool for sure! Working for what we want might seem hard and even impossible at times. A vision board brings clarity and with clarity comes excitement for what the future holds for us!
